I want to know what they made before that!!!Alistair Reecehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15929927359428659775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5042627331437123482.post-33280545942260400592009-04-30T11:04:00.000+02:002009-04-30T11:04:00.000+02:00Yes it is indeed pretty ludicrous, for the sole fa...Yes it is indeed pretty ludicrous, for the sole fact that if a beer is brewed in the Czech Rep. is automatically a Czech beer (which applies even to the Stella Artois and Asahi brewed in Smichov, for example).

But if they at least did it right! I don't like the Reinheitsgebot, but it is at least coherent. This České Pivo thing doesn't make any sense. And on top of that, those stupid conditions thwart innovation.Pivní Filosofhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17883511608403454943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5042627331437123482.post-18430714785412525202009-04-30T08:52:00.000+02:002009-04-30T08:52:00.000+02:00I have said all along that I think the idea of hav...I have said all along that I think the idea of having "Czech beer" as an appellation is ludicrous. Well done though to Budvar and even PU for not wanting to use the new appellation - use of which, in Budvar's case, would surely undermine their efforts in the Bud wars?

I think the term "Czech beer" borders on historical revisionism by failing to take into account the role of Germans in the development of beer in these lands, Josef Groll, Karl Balling and the original Budweiser brewery - Burgerliches Brauerei Budweis, founded a century before Budvar.

If there has to be an appellation, and I fail to see on what merit there can be, given that most Czech beers today use a method with its roots in Bavaria, it should be Bohemian Beer if the brewery is from Bohemia, Moravian if from Moravia and Silesian if from Silesia.Alistair Reecehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15929927359428659775noreply@blogger.com
